Veteran's Day Thoughts
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at 10:49AM
This morning on my drive in to work, I realized that I had totally forgotten that today is Veteran's Day; this from the wife of a veteran. Unlike some, however, I have been very fortunate to be able to still be a part of Hubby's life. Many women are not so fortunate. On NPR this morning, a story of six military wives who lost their husbands was featured. In a way that I could never express the grief that is experienced by families who have lost loved ones in tragedies of war, this story tells it all: American Widow Project.
Those who join the Military are a different breed. That these selfless individuals are willing to risk their lives to defend our freedom is beyond my understanding. I could not imagine myself facing the possibility of imminent death for a concept that sometimes seems unappreciated by (some of) those who are citizens of America. For that selfless bravery, I remember and thank the few that I personally have known who have fallen or suffered for our freedom. You know who you are.
